Taunting Man Gets Attacked by Tigerartdhaliwalap.jpg

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) — One of the three victims of a San Francisco Zoo tiger attack was intoxicated and admitted to yelling and waving at the animal while standing atop the railing of the big cat enclosure, police say in court documents.

Paul Dhaliwal, 19, told the father of Carlos Sousa Jr., 17, who was killed, that the three yelled and waved at the tiger but insisted they never threw anything into its pen to provoke the cat, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained Thursday by the San Francisco Chronicle.

“As a result of this investigation, (police believe) that the tiger may have been taunted/agitated by its eventual victims,” according to Inspector Valerie Matthews, who prepared the affidavit. Police believe that “this factor contributed to the tiger escaping from its enclosure and attacking its victims,” she said.

Sousa’s father, Carlos Sousa Sr., said Dhaliwal told him the three stood on a 3-foot-tall metal railing a few feet from the edge of the tiger moat. “When they got down they heard a noise in the bushes, and the tiger was jumping out of the bushes on him (Paul Dhaliwal),” the documents said.

Cheney and Obama are Cousins!

Cheney’s Wife Says Hubby And Obama Related

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Turns out Vice President Cheney and Illinois Senator Barack Obama are closer than they seem.

Lynne Cheney, the vice president’s wife, told MSNBC that her husband and Obama are eighth cousins.

She says she discovered the long-ago ties between the two while researching her ancestry for her latest book, “Blue Skies, No Fences,” a memoir about growing up in Wyoming. Cheney’s book doesn’t mention the ancestral ties.

According to her spokeswoman, Obama is a descendent of Mareen Duvall. This French Huguenot’s (HYOO’-guh-nots) son married the granddaughter of a Richard Cheney, who arrived in Maryland in the late 1650’s from England.

A spokesman for Obama offered a tongue-in-cheek response.

Fury at DNA pioneer’s theory:

Africans are less intelligent than Westerners

Celebrated scientist attacked for race comments: “All our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really”

One of the world’s most eminent scientists was embroiled in an extraordinary row last night after he claimed that black people were less intelligent than white people and the idea that “equal powers of reason” were shared across racial groups was a delusion.

James Watson, a Nobel Prize winner for his part in the unravelling of DNA who now runs one of America’s leading scientific research institutions, drew widespread condemnation for comments he made ahead of his arrival in Britain today for a speaking tour at venues including the Science Museum in London.

The 79-year-old geneticist reopened the explosive debate about race and science in a newspaper interview in which he said Western policies towards African countries were wrongly based on an assumption that black people were as clever as their white counterparts when “testing” suggested the contrary. He claimed genes responsible for creating differences in human intelligence could be found within a decade.

Rivals coming after Apple’s I-Phone

Sprint launched its version of the HTC Touch today, aimed not at business users (that most of the Windows Mobile platform devices target) but at consumers. The hope is that the flip-happy TouchFlo skin over the more familiar WM6 interface will draw in people with iPhone envy. The Touch will cost $250 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate, and will be available on Nov. 4.
